speedwell

Meadow flower, blue

Speedwell is any of numerous plants in the genus Veronica, characterized by small blue, purple, pink, or white flowers with four petals.

These low-growing plants appear in meadows, lawns, and woodland edges across temperate regions.

The name supposedly reflects an old belief that the flowers brought good luck to travelers, though speedwell has also been used in traditional medicine.

The lawn was dotted with tiny blue speedwell flowers.
