ragweed

Hay fever culprit

Ragweed is a common North American weed notorious for producing vast quantities of airborne pollen in late summer and fall.

It's a primary cause of seasonal allergies, often called hay fever: Ragweed season has my sinuses in revolt.

The plant itself is unremarkable—weedy and yellow-flowered—but its pollen makes it one of the most cursed plants in the hemisphere.
