sou'easter
Southeastern maritime wind
A sou'easter is a strong wind or storm blowing from the southeast.
The term appears most often in nautical and coastal contexts, where wind direction matters for navigation and weather: The sou'easter brought heavy rain to the coast.
A sou'wester, by contrast, blows from the southwest—and also names the waterproof hat worn in such weather.
