mackintosh

Waterproof British coat

A mackintosh is a waterproof raincoat, originally made of rubberized cloth.

The word is chiefly British and somewhat old-fashioned, often shortened to mac: Don't forget your mac, it looks like rain.

Named after the Scottish chemist who patented the waterproofing process in 1823.
