solar noon
Highest sun moment
Solar noon is the moment when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky for a given location, marking the midpoint of the day by solar time rather than clock time.
Because of time zones and longitude, solar noon rarely coincides with 12:00 on the clock: Solar noon in Boston comes about half an hour before noon in Detroit, though both cities share a time zone.
