socketing
Placing into receptacle
Socketing is the act of fitting something into a socket—a hollow or opening designed to receive and hold a corresponding part.
In gaming, socketing typically refers to inserting gems or other items into equipment slots to enhance their properties: I spent an hour socketing my armor with the best gems I had.
The term appears in technical contexts for installing components: socketing a CPU into the motherboard.
