snuffbox
Pinch-sized powder holder
A snuffbox is a small decorative container for holding snuff—powdered tobacco inhaled through the nose.
Popular from the 17th through 19th centuries, snuffboxes were often ornate, made of gold, silver, or enamel, and served as status symbols among the wealthy.
In anatomy, the anatomical snuffbox is the triangular depression at the base of the thumb, named for the old habit of placing snuff there before inhaling.
