papier-mâché
Paste and paper
Papier-mâché is a craft material made from paper pulp or strips mixed with paste or glue, molded into shapes and hardened when dry.
The technique produces lightweight objects—masks, piñatas, decorative bowls, theatrical props: The kids made papier-mâché volcanoes for the science fair.
Figuratively, something papier-mâché is flimsy or insubstantial.
