snow house

Frozen dome shelter

A snow house is a dome-shaped shelter built from blocks of compacted snow, traditionally constructed by Inuit peoples for temporary winter housing.

The blocks are cut and stacked in a spiral pattern, with body heat and a small lamp warming the interior.

Also called an igloo.
