slider phone

Keyboard-revealing handset design

A slider phone is a mobile phone design where the screen slides up or out to reveal a physical keyboard beneath.

Popular in the mid-2000s before touchscreens dominated, slider phones offered compact size when closed and full QWERTY keyboards for texting: I miss my old slider phone—typing was so much easier.

The mechanism eventually fell out of favor as virtual keyboards improved.
