clamshell design
Two-part folding form
Clamshell design describes a hinged structure that opens and closes like the shell of a clam.
The term applies most often to laptops and flip phones, where two halves connect at a hinge and fold flat against each other: The clamshell design protects the screen when closed.
The form factor also appears in food containers, packaging, and cases.
