sixteenth notes

Four per beat

Sixteenth notes are musical notes lasting one-sixteenth of a whole note, or one-quarter of a beat in common time.

They're written with filled noteheads, stems, and double flags or beams.

Fast passages often consist of sixteenth notes: The pianist's fingers flew through the sixteenth-note runs.

British English calls them semiquavers.
