breves

Longest standard notes

Breves is the plural of breve, a diacritical mark (˘) placed over a vowel to indicate it is short or unstressed: The breves in the dictionary showed which syllables were clipped.

In music, a breve is a note equal to two whole notes—rarely used in modern notation.

The term comes from Latin for "short."
