servomechanisms

Self-correcting control systems

Servomechanisms are automatic control systems that use feedback to correct their own performance.

A servomechanism measures the difference between its actual output and desired output, then adjusts accordingly—like power steering, which senses how hard you turn the wheel and applies proportional force.

The term often shortens to servo: The robot's servos whirred as it moved.
