sender

Message's starting point

A sender is whoever or whatever dispatches something—a letter, package, email, or signal.

The term appears on forms and shipping labels to identify the originating party: Return to sender.

In communication contexts, sender pairs with receiver to describe the two ends of any transmission: The sender's address was illegible.
