semimetallic

Between metal, nonmetal

Semimetallic describes materials that share properties of both metals and nonmetals.

In chemistry, semimetallic elements like silicon and arsenic conduct electricity better than insulators but worse than true metals.

The term appears most often in automotive contexts, where semimetallic brake pads contain metal fibers mixed with other materials: I replaced the organic pads with semimetallic ones for better stopping power.
