scrapping

Ditching the plan

Scrapping has two distinct sources.

From scrap meaning a fragment or leftover, scrapping is the act of discarding or abandoning something: They're scrapping the old policy, The navy is scrapping three destroyers.

From scrap meaning a fight, scrapping is engaging in a scuffle or heated dispute: The kids were scrapping in the yard, rival factions scrapping over territory.
