scientific terminology
Specialized field language
Scientific terminology is the specialized vocabulary used in science to name concepts, processes, and phenomena with precision.
Terms like *photosynthesis*, *entropy*, and *mitochondria* allow researchers to communicate unambiguously across languages and disciplines.
Much scientific terminology draws on Greek and Latin roots, which lets speakers infer meaning from word parts: The prefix *hyper-* told me it meant too much of something.
Outside technical contexts, scientific terminology can obscure meaning rather than clarify it.
