scalps

Skin under hair

Scalps is the plural of scalp—the skin and hair covering the top of the head.

Historically, scalps were cut from enemies as war trophies, particularly associated with conflicts between Native Americans and European settlers: The raiding party returned with scalps.

In trading and ticketing, scalps are items bought and resold at marked-up prices.

The verb scalps means to take a scalp, to resell at inflated prices, or to make quick profits on small price movements: He scalps concert tickets outside the venue.
