ringworm

Circular skin infection

Ringworm is a fungal skin infection that forms ring-shaped, scaly patches—not caused by any worm, despite the name.

The circular pattern with raised edges and clearing center resembles a worm curled under the skin.

It spreads through direct contact and affects the scalp, feet (athlete's foot), and groin (jock itch): The wrestler picked up ringworm from the mat.
