sarcoptic mange
Contagious skin disease
Sarcoptic mange is a contagious skin disease caused by burrowing mites, primarily affecting dogs and other mammals.
The mites tunnel into the skin, causing intense itching, hair loss, and crusty sores.
Also called scabies when it occurs in humans.
The stray dog's patchy fur and constant scratching suggested sarcoptic mange.
