sandflea
Tiny shore pest
A sandflea is any of several small jumping crustaceans found on beaches, or a biting fly common in sandy coastal areas.
The crustacean burrows in wet sand and hops when disturbed.
The biting insect, also called a sand fly, leaves itchy welts: I got eaten alive by sandfleas at the beach.
Also spelled sand flea.
