sambar

Indian lentil stew

Sambar refers to two unrelated things.

One is a large Asian deer with coarse brown fur and branching antlers, found from India to Southeast Asia.

The other is a South Indian lentil stew made with tamarind, vegetables, and spices, typically served alongside rice, idli, or dosa.

The sambar at that restaurant has just the right amount of tang.

Context usually makes clear which meaning is intended.
