gun powder
Musket's combustible charge
Gunpowder is an explosive mixture of saltpeter, charcoal, and sulfur—the first chemical explosive, used in firearms, artillery, and blasting for centuries.
The term extends to any similar propellant: smokeless gunpowder.
The Gunpowder Plot was the 1605 attempt to blow up Parliament.
The air smelled of gunpowder after the fireworks.
