saints' days
Church calendar celebrations
Saints' days are days in the Christian calendar dedicated to particular saints, traditionally the anniversary of their death or martyrdom.
Churches may hold special services, and in Catholic and Orthodox traditions, people named after saints celebrate their name day.
Some saints' days have become secular holidays: St.
Patrick's Day, St.
Valentine's Day.
