rusk
Twice-baked bread
A rusk is a dry, crisp biscuit or twice-baked bread, often given to teething infants to gnaw on.
Rusks are also eaten as a light snack or with tea.
The texture comes from baking bread slices a second time until thoroughly dried: The baby gnawed contentedly on a rusk.
