rotary dialing
Finger-wheel telephoning
Rotary dialing is the method of placing telephone calls by spinning a numbered dial, releasing it to generate electrical pulses that signal each digit.
The technology dominated telephone use from the early twentieth century until push-button phones replaced it in the 1970s and 80s.
Rotary dialing took forever compared to today's phones.
