rollbar

Convertible safety frame

A rollbar is a metal bar or frame installed in a vehicle—typically a convertible, off-road vehicle, or race car—designed to protect occupants if the vehicle rolls over.

The structure prevents the roof from crushing inward during a crash: The Jeep's rollbar saved his life when it flipped.
