powder-coating

Dry paint process

Powder-coating is a finishing process where dry powder is applied to a surface—usually metal—then heated to form a durable, uniform coating.

The result is tougher than conventional paint and resists chipping, scratching, and fading: The patio furniture was powder-coated to withstand the elements.

As an adjective, powder-coated describes items finished this way: powder-coated steel railings.
