right of entry

Legal access privilege

Right of entry is the legal authority to enter property.

A landlord may have a right of entry to inspect rental units with proper notice.

Police obtain a right of entry through warrants or exigent circumstances.

In property law, it can also mean the right to reclaim land from someone wrongfully possessing it: The deed reserved a right of entry if the buyer violated the covenant.
