Lion-hunting dog breed
Ridgebacks are dogs of breeds characterized by a distinctive ridge of hair running along the spine in the opposite direction from the rest of the coat.
The term usually refers to Rhodesian ridgebacks, a large, muscular breed developed in southern Africa for hunting lions and guarding property: Our ridgeback is gentle with the kids but protective of the house.
Thai ridgebacks are a rarer, older breed with the same spinal feature.
