rhyme schemes

Poetry sound patterns

A rhyme scheme is the pattern of end sounds in a poem, typically mapped with letters—ABAB means the first and third lines rhyme, as do the second and fourth.

Different forms have characteristic schemes: sonnets follow specific patterns, limericks use AABBA.

The poem's rhyme scheme grew predictable after a few stanzas.
