resocializing
Rejoining the community
Resocializing is the process of learning new norms, values, and behaviors to replace previously learned ones.
The term appears in sociology and psychology when someone undergoes significant identity transformation—a prisoner adapting to incarceration, a cult member being deprogrammed, or an immigrant adjusting to a new culture: The program focuses on resocializing former gang members.
