rerailment

Back on rails

Rerailment is the act of putting a derailed train back on the tracks, or more broadly, the restoration of anything that has gone off course.

The word appears most often in discussions of railway accidents and recovery operations, but extends figuratively to projects, conversations, or processes that need to be brought back to their intended direction: The rerailment of negotiations took several weeks.
