replating
Fresh metallic layer
Replating is the process of applying a new layer of metal coating to an object, typically to restore worn or tarnished items.
Silver-plated flatware, jewelry, and automotive parts commonly undergo replating when their original finish deteriorates: The antique tea set needed replating after years of use.
The term also applies to replacing license plates on vehicles.
