remineralisation

Restoring lost minerals

Remineralisation is the process of restoring minerals to something that has lost them.

In dentistry, it describes the natural repair of tooth enamel when calcium and phosphate ions redeposit on damaged surfaces: Fluoride toothpaste promotes remineralisation.

The term also applies to adding minerals back to purified water or depleted soil.
