Redlines are markups showing proposed changes to a document, traditionally in red ink or tracked changes: The lawyer sent back redlines on the contract.
The term comes from legal and publishing practice where editors mark deletions and insertions.
To redline a document is to annotate it with suggested revisions.
In another sense, to redline is to discriminatorily deny services to certain neighborhoods—from the practice of drawing red lines on maps around areas deemed undesirable for lending or insurance.
