reconcentration
Herding into camps
Reconcentration is the forced relocation and confinement of civilian populations, typically into camps or designated zones, as a military or political strategy.
The term gained notoriety from Spanish policies in Cuba in the 1890s and American actions in the Philippines, where rural populations were concentrated to deny support to insurgents.
The reconcentration policy led to widespread disease and starvation among displaced civilians.
