recessive trait
Masked genetic feature
A recessive trait is a characteristic that appears only when an organism inherits two copies of the gene variant responsible—one from each parent.
If paired with a dominant version, the recessive trait remains hidden but can still be passed to offspring.
Blue eyes, red hair, and cystic fibrosis are recessive traits.
The trait skipped a generation because both parents were carriers.
