dominant allele
Masking genetic form
A dominant allele is a version of a gene that produces its characteristic effect even when only one copy is present.
If you inherit a dominant allele from one parent and a recessive allele from the other, the dominant trait appears: Brown eyes are dominant over blue.
The term comes from genetics, where alleles are alternative forms of the same gene.
