dominant gene
Masks recessive traits
A dominant gene is one whose trait appears in an organism even when only one copy is present, overriding the effect of a recessive gene inherited from the other parent.
If you inherit a dominant gene for brown eyes from one parent and a recessive gene for blue from the other, your eyes will be brown.
The term applies broadly to any genetic trait that expresses itself when paired with an alternative form.
