ratters
Terriers chasing vermin
Ratters are dogs or cats kept for catching rats.
The term applies especially to terrier breeds—rat terriers, Jack Russells, and others bred for this purpose: Good ratters were essential in old granaries.
A ratter can also be someone who rats—an informer or betrayer: The gang suspected they had a ratter in their midst.
