Hamelin
German rat legend
Hamelin is a town in northern Germany, famous as the setting of the Pied Piper legend.
In the story, a piper lures away the town's children after being denied payment for ridding it of rats.
The tale has made Hamelin synonymous with broken promises and their consequences: Don't be like Hamelin—pay what you owe.
