rasterising

Converting to pixels

Rasterising is converting vector graphics or 3D models into a grid of pixels for display on a screen.

Vector images use mathematical descriptions of shapes; rasterising translates these into the discrete dots that monitors actually show.

The process is fundamental to computer graphics, happening constantly as software renders text, images, and games.
