rainbow coalition
Multigroup political partnership
A rainbow coalition is an alliance of diverse groups—typically across racial, ethnic, religious, or political lines—united behind a common cause.
The term evokes the rainbow's spectrum of colors representing different communities coming together.
Jesse Jackson popularized the phrase with his Rainbow Coalition in the 1984 presidential campaign: The candidate assembled a rainbow coalition of voters.
