railway town
Train station community
A railway town is a settlement that developed primarily because of its location along a railroad line, often serving as a station, junction, or maintenance hub.
Many such towns in North America and elsewhere owe their existence to 19th-century rail expansion: The old railway town still has its original depot.
Some thrived; others became ghost towns when rail traffic declined.
