pyrimidine

Ring with nitrogens

Pyrimidine is a six-membered ring compound containing nitrogen atoms, forming the structural basis for three of the five nucleotide bases in DNA and RNA: cytosine, thymine, and uracil.

In biochemistry, pyrimidines are distinguished from purines, the other class of nucleotide bases.

The drug works by inhibiting pyrimidine synthesis.
