UMP
Nucleotide or weapon
Ump is a clipped form of umpire, a term for an official in sports who enforces rules and makes judgment calls.
In baseball, umps stand behind home plate or near bases to call balls, strikes, and outs.
The term dates back to the 18th century, derived from the Old French nompere, meaning “not equal,” reflecting their impartial role.
Umps often use hand signals to communicate decisions, such as the sweeping arm motion for a safe call.
The ump called it a strike, but the batter disagreed.
