de novo
Starting over completely
De novo means from the beginning or anew, starting fresh rather than building on what came before.
The term appears most often in legal and scientific contexts.
A de novo trial is a completely new proceeding, not a review of an earlier one.
In biology, de novo synthesis creates molecules from scratch rather than recycling existing ones: The mutation arose de novo in the patient.
