puncheons
Big wooden containers
Puncheons are large casks for storing liquids, typically holding 70 to 120 gallons—used historically for wine, rum, or other spirits: aged in oak puncheons.
The word also refers to a heavy timber with one flattened face, used as flooring or structural support in rough construction: a cabin with puncheon floors.
